It’s that time again! Avery UMC is excited for the start of another school year, and we are celebrating in several ways!
Do you have kids in school? Join us for…
Backpack Blessing – Sun. Sept. 2, 10:30 am
Bring your backpacks to worship, where Miss Amy and Pastor Erik will pray with you for the start of your school year!
First Day of School Drive-Thru Prayer – Tue. Sept. 4, 3-4:15 pm*
Come through the church parking lot after picking up your kids at school, and Avery UMC will have someone pray with you as a family for the start of your school year! Each family will receive a prayer card to keep in your car, which you can use to pray every morning before school. We’ll also have goodies!
*Planned to coincide with the first day of school for Trinity School District. Students in other school districts are welcome at this time or may arrange for another time by contacting Pastor Erik.
Don’t have kids in school? Help us show teachers, staff, & students how much Avery UMC cares!
Let Pastor Erik know how you can help.
First Day of School Welcoming Party – Tue. Sept. 4, 7:45-9 am
Members of Avery will gather on the street corner between the church and school to welcome Trinity West Elementary students as they drive in by bus or car. Everyone is welcome to help us show our support!

|Service Opportunity: Love in a Backpack
Thursdays, 10-11 am during the school year
Each weekend, millions of children go hungry. Hunger negatively impacts a child’s learning and performance in school. This year, Avery UMC is partnering with Trinity West Elementary and Washington Salvation Army to help children in our own community who go home hungry on the weekends.
On Thursdays throughout the school year, we will pack nutritious food to be sent home with qualifying children at Trinity West. The food will be donated by the Salvation Army and distributed by the school. Packing will take about an hour and will require 4-8 volunteers. The packing will take place at Avery. A sign-up sheet will be available soon.
