Christmas: A Season of Giving & Serving
The Shut-in Committee is collecting donations for Christmas gift cards to give to our members who are unable to attend church. The collection will run from Nov. 18 thru Dec. 9. Checks may be made out to Avery UMC with “Shut-ins” on the memo line. Please see Rosemary Tarr with gifts and/or questions, and thanks for your generosity!
Avery United Methodist Women
invite you to “PARTY-IN” the month of December and all of your holiday festivities. There’s no better way than having fun and fellowship with us on December 3rd at 6:30 pm. Our monthly meeting will be held in the Family Room on the 2nd floor of Premier Health Center. We have a blast! We are going to be playing some “Family Feud”, sing Christmas Carols, and feast on Christmas cookies and treats. Why not come and visit with us and our members who reside there, Ella Mae Waters and Helen Sumney? We will be there with bells on for certain. Come on and join us to find out what that means!
Have you ordered your Cookbooks? Orders are coming in every day. Don’t be left out. These books contain all the best recipes – old and new. Order 1 book for $10, or 2 for $20; or as in one case, take our “bulk deal” and order 12 for $120. The books should be in before Thanksgiving. Many of our recipe contributors will be glad to sign your copies.! If you choose to pay by check, please make it out to “Avery United Methodist Women”. A portion of the proceeds will go toward our youth attending SPARK. Thanks all!
Prayer & Care Cards
Tue. Dec. 11 at 6:30 pm
You are invited on a journey that begins with prayer for our loved ones, church family, and the world. We meet monthly to make and take home three care cards – supplies are provided. The Spirit will lead and guide us along the way each 2nd Tuesday of the month at 6:30 pm.
“Cast your burden on the Lord, and the Lord will care for you.” – Psalm 55:22
Love in a Backpack
Thursdays, 11 am-Noon
We are partnering with Trinity West & Washington Salvation Army to help children in our own community who go home hungry on the weekends. On Thursdays throughout the school year, we pack nutritious food here at Avery to be sent home with qualifying children at Trinity West. Packing is from 11 am-Noon. Sign up in the welcome area to volunteer.
Volunteers must have clearances on file with the church. This is a Washington Salvation Army policy and we are required to abide by it. If you do not have clearances, come early to volunteer and we’ll have you cleared to help that same day.
Purchase a Poinsettia
It’s time to place your orders for the poinsettias that beautify our church for Christmas. If you would like to purchase them, please complete the order forms now appearing in weekly worship bulletins, or call the church office to place your order. The last day to order is December 2.
Avery In Action
When you give to Avery in Action (AIA), your money is given by Avery UMC to local and global missions. The missions supported by your gifts in Jan. – March 2018 are:
- Adoption Connection of PA. AIA funds will be used towards a mission of the United Methodist Women to assemble backpacks to give to children going into foster homes.
- Washington County Habitat for Humanity, which builds safe, affordable homes for families in need. Habitat families work on their own home and buy the home at cost of construction (around $90,000).
Other Giving Opportunities:
Food Bank: Donations are always accepted at the church. Drop off donations in the basket in the welcome area.
